I gazed wearily over the river that had once took my breath away. I supposed that it still did, but in a different manner. It used to stun me with it's beauty, with its fresh, cool water, green foliage and the forest creatures that peacefully decorated the scene. Now I was shocked by the rivers appearence. It layed still, with blood red waters that were far from drinkable. The only surrounding plants were bare, and no critters dared to come to it's edges anymore.
With a sigh I chose to sit on a nearby rock, as I pondered why the river had run red in the first place. Was it a representation of the many deaths caused by the butterfly's absence? Or was the river trying to tell us something? A clue maybe, of how to renew Nullius?
I shook the thoughts from my head and stood up, pulling my heavy sword from it's sheath. I layed it on the ground and went to the rivers edge. Once there, I picked up small pebbles and skipped them along the surface of the water, hypnotised by the ripples that rapidly formed. The only sounds I could hear around me were those of a vacant land, quiet and quite eerie...

Vittoria sat quietly in a bare tree with her raven Midnight. Her ears caught the sound of another. Without thinking she threw a dagger toward the sound and frowned as she heard it bury itself in to the earth. She sighed and waved the bird away, sort of telling him to go get it.
He flew to the dagger and grabbed on to the hilt and began to caw as he spotted Lestat. She sighed again and walked over to the bird and saw Lestat by the crimson rivers banks, "Hello Lestat." she said with a smile. She raised her arm as the bird flew up and landed on her arm, the dagger in it's talons. She grabbed it in her other hand and began to put down her arm, and Midnight began to climb till he came to her shoulder.
Tonight she was wearing a black top with no sleeves and black fingerless gloves. Her black pants were a little baggy and her shoes were simple black shoes. She adjusted her bow on her back as she waited for some sort of response from Lestat. She looked down to the ground and carved an infinity sign in to the earth wondering how long infinity could really be.

I looked up abruptly in the direction I had heard my name being called. My charcoal eyes spotting our very own torturer, Vittoria. I allowed my lips to curve into a friendly smile as I stood from the rock that I was seated on, and took a few strides so that I stood close to the vampiress. I admired the raven on her shoulder, such a well trained bird, and ravens were usually hard to tame. With a deep voice, I greeted the torturer.
"Greetings, Vittoria. That is a very intelligent raven you have sitting on your shoulder, what is his name?"
The small creature looked at me skeptically, probably readying himself to defend his owner incase I was a threat. I smiled, looking into his dark pools that seemed bottomless. I then turned my gaze back to Vittoria, awaiting a response, and hopefully an introduction to her amazing friend.
(Sorry it's a little short, I am short of time)

(That's alright)
She looked up as he noticed her standing there at and returned to him a small smile, but it deteriated quickly as she was not the one that was quite cheery. Her eyes met his as he strode closer to her, and stopped near her; nearer than she'd let most anyone else anyway. Most anyone that stood this close to her was already dead, but he wasn't just anyone after all, she held high respect for Lestat and select others.
"Hello Lestat. My dark freind here is called Midnight, and he is really quite intelligent. He is the only one that understands me and such; my best friend really."
She smiled, but Lestat didn't know what Midnight was exactly he appeared to be a raven, but he was much more; in her little insane mind of course. To her he was the only one that ever understood her or didn't try to stab her in the bag or throw her away like garbage. And with these sort of thoughts brings searingly painful memories. She wiped them from her thoughts and brought herself back to more current times.
"So what brings you here to the red river Lestat?"
Her tone was rather flat and seemed without feeling, but only a true observant could hear the more embarresed tone. She rather liked Lestat; he was the one that introduced her to the Ventana in the first place. She sometimes wondered if he thought of her as mad, and if he did she didn't mind much for most thought this too. She shifted her wait on to her right foot and stroked the bird with her hand and recieved a happy caw.

I observed the river the was situated in the heart of Nullius...and sadly took in the scenery. The once beautiful river looked like blood, the hundreds of trees that expressed the winds' fiesty mood around the river, were all bare. There were no more blue birds to fill our ears with song, nor any other small creatures that used to reside here. In the winter time the crimson waters looked like a pool blood, blood that was spilt by the absence of one small creature. I sighed as I returned my gaze to the face of the Torturer, my expression bleak and gray...my voice soft, broken...
"I came here on this night just to wonder...I am curious about this river, as I believe there is a distinct reason to it's change. It intrigues me...It's hard to explain..."
I quickly darted my gaze upward to the moon, the only thing left in Nullius other than roses that offered beauty. I admired it's peacefulness, it never had to fight for existence...it never needed to. The pain of our loss just wouldn't heal - I wanted it back. Although I knew in my heart that not all would return, for we would never feel the joy of the king's presence again. I shook off my melancholy mood, and the depressing thoughts, and returned my eye contact with Vittoria. Curiosity about her reason for being at the river took over my mind. With a slightly clearer melody, I inquired about it.
"What are you doing at the river this evening...?"

Vittoria watched quietly as Lestat looked out to the scenery; it was much beautiful long ago....now it was all simply dead; gone and broken, just like her black little heart. When he turned back to face her, her mood only changed to slightly more depressed. He now loked older, and sad. His voice only brought her down more, for it was soft, broken, so unlike the Lestat she knew....she shook her head as he explained why he had come...to wonder why the river turned crimson, perhaps a sign of the past....
She looked at the moon as he did, the only sort of natural light she had ever seen...for she had never once seen the sun for fear of burning. She was much like a vampire before birth; the palest child in the city and even paler once she was turned. She turned and stared at Lestat as he stared at her and her mood only darkened more, when he inquired why she was there...
"Me? I am here to reflect on my horrible past...quite sad really. I've never seen the sun I was literally thrown away as a child. I saw more death as a child than anyone would in an entire lifetime."
She paused and drew her breath to tell him more. "I watched the last of my family die and I've disowned my sister, and who I called my mother for so long only picked me from the garbage can and made me believe she was my mother. I have seen nothing but trouble my whole life, and when Nullius went down...I thought I should kill myself, but before I ever had the chance to go through with it I found you...and now I torture others for a living...imaging them as my sister and others that I have resented. I've never truly had a real friend that I could talk to and when I talk to my animal's people think me mad...and I am a bit mad you could say with all I've been through; but then again who wouldn't be?"
She stopped speaking and summoned a rock to her. The rock hesitated before lifting off the ground and sitting beside her. She sat down and put her head in her hands and wondered why she had told him? Perhaps it was because she trusted him and he was like a friend...she idn't know and silent tears began to roll down her pale face.

I listened in silence to the words that Vittoria spoke. Her recalling of her past was nothing less than horrible. I kept my expression blank as I witnessed her summon a rock to sit upon, my eyes never leaving her face...and then I saw tears come from the corners of her eyes. It must of been hard to endure, I thought, and to live such an emtpy existance would surely change the personality of anyone to one of a strange and saddened peace of mind. I chose to sit near her, on a log that had only just caught my site. I kept my voice soft, understanding as I spoke to the Torturer in hopes of easing her pain somewhat...
"You are right, Vittoria. To have lived a life full of such pain would surely send anyone with a weak heart to insanity. But I believe there is more strength in you. You have what it takes to be a great tribute to Ventana, and I may be mistaken, but some of your skills would probably have come with the hard life you led. What makes us stronger beings is overcoming challenging adversities...which you have done rather well. Vittoria, you need not believe that you are mad, as you are not. I often speak to my stallion as if he were a more logical creature, and this brings comfort. But if you ever need someone to talk to...I'm always here..."
I leaned my body back slightly, relaxing a small bit after my speech. My ebony eyes still focused on the face of the vampiress. I had always been taught, even as a human, to focus first on the pain of others...rather than your own problems. And I had not yet realised that my own thoughts that had led me here, were forgotten. Vittoria's retelling of her life had me entranced, curious...and worried for her. She seemed like a determined warrior who would stop at nothing to gain her revenge, but yet I saw something much more in her...
(PS. Happy B'Day!!)

(Thanks Lestat! ;D Sorry I haven't been on been busy with school.)
She lifted her head and watched Lestat come sit near her on a log. Oh how she wished she were as nearly as lucky as him....he once saw the sun rise and set in the clear blue sky, had real friends....had anyone for that matter. She had never really had anyone....she perked up as he began to speak. He thought perhaps others might be mad if they were her, and he thought she herself was too strong for that...oh how she loved the words he spoke. They made her feel more...you could say human....and not so alone in the harsh, and cruel world. She wished there were more caring people in the world like him. He said she could even talk to him...she felt different now...like she had someone that wouldn't throw her away, bring her down, or stab her in the back.
"If only there were more like you Lestat....you are the only one that has ever said such kind words to me, and you are the only true friend I've ever had. But say you are right, and all my misfortune has helped me become who I am today...do you think I may have some better luck in the future?"
Her question rung throughout the bare forest and hung in the air...or did it just feel that way? She asked that question everyday...would she ever have a better life? Maybe find a "real" family if you could call it that. Perhaps even a few friends. But there was always one thing she really wanted to know...
"What does a sunrise look like Lestat? I've never seen one; even before I became a vampire....I was always to sickly, and I burned easily.....you could say I was a vampire without the immortality and hunger for blood. Perhaps that is why Orida took me from the garbage in the first place..."
She said this last part with a wondering sort of tone and her head was thingyed to the side. She whistled and Midnight flew off; she wanted him to get Saggitarius for her...she wanted to leave and get going to be by herself and train ro something...maybe she would just go to the outskirts of Nullius, but she would wait for SAggitarius and Midnight to come, for now she would talk with Lestat.

I watched the raven take off in easy flight. As I watched it's figure fade off into the distance, I remembered only briefly in my mind how beautiful the sunset was...it had been centuries since I had witnessed one. With my dark eyes clouded over in disappointment, I returned my sight to Vittoria. It was not apparent how disturbed I was with the fact that I could barely remember one single dusk, my voice came out clearly, untainted...
"You know, Vittoria, I haven't even thought about a sunset in centuries. I cannot quite remember the details of how they looked...I just remember them being beautiful, a display of oranges, purples and blues along a peaceful, fading sky..."
I felt sympathy in the fact that the vampiress had not seen a sunset during the period of her whole life. I could not imagine what it would feel like to miss out on on such a simple pleasure. My ebony pools returned to their contented aura, as I gazed at the stars that sat high above us. Their beauty overcame any sunset I had seen...and I felt priveledged in knowing we, as vampires, saw the night sky rather than the sun...
(Don't worry, it wasn't even bad. I understand though...I've been majorly lacking in muse the last week or so...)

"That is what everyone has ever told me...they can't quite describe it really. They say it is a splash of purple, blue, orange...I can never quite imagine what it looks like though. Well perhaps one day I will see one...it'll be my suicide plan for the end of my life when I'm needed no longer....."
She drifted off and looked to the sky. No human person had ever really stayed out to enjoy the night and it's beautiful lights with the soft glow of the moon that illuminates your path in the middle of the night....she was told if you look at the sun your eyes would burn out the light was so intense, but the moon was pleasing to look at, and you could say albeit mesmerizing.
She watched as a small flock of white doves flew across the night sky, and wondered what had frightened them. She decided to ignore it and picked up a small pebble. She threw it up in and down in her hand before skipping it across the red water. She picked up another and just rolled it around in her hand before picking it up with her mind and skipping it in the river.
She let a rare smile come to her pale face, but tensed up as she heard something coming. She peered through the bare branches of the forest and saw her beautiful horse Saggitarius. She whistled and the horse lengthened her pace. She waited for the horse to drape her muzzle on her shoulder and rubbed her face affectionatly. On Saggitarius' shoulder stood the squawking raven Midnight.

The sudden sound of something slipping closer startled me. I turned my head in the direction of the potential enemy, and saw merely Vittoria's own steed along with her raven. The horse was magnificent, a fine creature indeed...the sight of Saggitarius led me to thoughts of my own stallion - Obsidian. It had been a while since I had rode him, and I felt the sudden urge to go riding. I shook off those miscellaneous thoughts and pondered a way to let Vittoria experience a sunset, and then one idea came to mind...
"Vittoria, have you ever seen a sunset painted? I know that it is not quite as lovely as the real thing...but if painted well enough, I believe that for now it would at least give you an idea of how it appears..."
My dark eyes shined with hope, I wanted Vittoria to at least know how it would look in the sky. The sun could blind a man if looked at directly, but at sunset the sun was at peace, and would harm ones sight if gazed at. Silence hung in the air, lingering in the shadows as I awaited an answer...my mind working like clockwork, attempting to give our torturer her wish...

"I suppose it would be better than nothing. But how is one to paint the sun if it will burn your eyes and make you go blind?"
She said this with wondering in her soft voice and rubbed Saggitarius' muzzle. The horse snorted and threw her head, only to rest it back on her shoulder. Her light eyes glew with anticipation none the less. She would get to see something of what a sunset looked like for the first time in her life.
She absent mindedly picked up a stone from the ground with her mind and placed it in her pale hand. The slate grey stone was sort of sparkly and pretty so she handed it to Midnight who picked it up happily with his beak. He flew off to his nest in the bare forest to add the shiny object to his hoard. She wondered if Lestat would bring her to see one of these paintings he spoke of. Perhaps they really did look like the real thing.

With interest twinkling in my dark eyes, I watched the raven fly off into the night. It's dark form blended well with the night, even with my extended senses Icould barely make out it's location from a close distance. I noticed that something disturbed the still waters, and concluded that it was probably an insect...as there were no fish in the river. My mind was working extensively, trying to figure out a way to obtain such a painting...and mere seconds later then I thought of it, the only area that held those paintings was the village. Humans were the only beings that could create such a thing, and the only way we could have gained possession of one was to steal it...like theives in the night. A hidden smile broke across my lips at the thought of such a mission, a mischevious smile that lit up my eyes. I looked to Vittoria and told her of my plan. "I believe that the only way we are going to gain such a painting would be to steal one from the village. I have seen those kinds of paintings there previously, and I don't think that one would be so hard to retrieve...would you join me? We can journey there right at the moment if you wish..." (Sorry it's short...no muse... )

"Really? Humans can create something that is supposed to be so beautiful? I suppose we could leave now if you are sure Lestat. But what if by the time we actually find the painting we are looking for, the sun begins to rise. What then? We'd burn up like dry hay and fire."
She said this all with the uttermost coollness with a hidden tone of excitment. She sat and looked at the ground wondering in silence what it was a sun rise or a sun set looked like. She looked to the dark sky and searched it for some sort of movement. She spotted something shiny...something shiny? She knew it wasn't Midnight he'd leave the pretty sparkly stone in his nest and make sure all of his other shiny doo-dads were in place...so what was it?
She grabbed her bow that hung from her saddle and an arrow from her quiver; she was going to shoot it at whatever it was in the sky, but first...she grabbed a small flammable cloth to the tip of her arrow and grabbed the two flint stones she carried around with her in her pocket and layed the arrow on the ground.
She struck the stones together and got small sparks. She struck it harder and got a succesful spark, which lit the rag on fire quickly. She placed it right on her bow and pulled back the string. She let go a few minutes later after aiming it right. The object in which it flew past was indeed a bird-like thing. Perhaps a new species? The bird had a silver sheen to it and carried something in it's talon's; perhap's a ring? She shrugged her shoulders and turned back to Lestat waiting for him to say something.

I stared in astonishment at the bird-like creature that Vittoria had shot her flaming arrow at. My expression was one of amazement...the small creature appeared to be holding some sort of jewellery in it's talons. I quickly shook the meaningless, drifting thoughts from my mind and turned my sight back to the torturer...she had a point of the risk involved in such a venture...but I had considered the potential danger to be half of the source of enjoyment. A mischevous smile sparkled deeply within my midnight coloured eyes, causing my usually stern brow to relax. With laughter hidden within my deep voice, I pleaded my case to the vampiress.
"Vittoria, you are certainly correct in saying that there is much risk involved in the search of the painting...the sun should be beginning to rise in around...4 hours, if I'm correct. But I believe that we have no need for so much time, for I plan to retrieve that picture as quickly as an adder strikes it's victim. I could call for my stallion from here, which would make our journey even shorter. I am definately in favour of such a quest, though I shalln't go alone."
A boyish grin overwhelmed my usually grim lips. The idea of a sneaky, dangerous and potentially deadly adventure made me feel youthful and free again...almost human...I could feel my heart pounding frantically in anticipation of such adrenalin. I reasoned to myself that this was all driven by a good cause, and nothing fatefully horrible would happen to those led by kind intentions. I looked wistfully in the direction of the small village, just hoping that Vittoria would agree to my idea...

"Alright, I'll do it." she said half smiling. She whistled and Sagittarius who had lain on the ground stood up ready, and from the top of the bare forest shot up a bird; obviously Midnight. She stood up and grabbed her horses reins. "If we are leaving here to the village we had better hurry if we only have four hours." she mounted Sagittarius easily and urged her toward Lestat.
"Well you had better call that stallion of yours and pray he isn't too far away so we can make good time." she said quickly and held out her arm as Midnight came down. He climbed her arm and sat on her shoulder. She rubbed Sagittarius' neck and waited for Lestat to do something.

The mishcievous smile returned to my lips, and to my ebony eyes as I instantly turned in the direction of the Ventana castle, and whistled so loudly it could pierce the hearing of a mortal - causing them to become deaf. I felt the anticipation grow within me, making me restless and unable to remain still. Luckily, it was only a matter of moments before the sound of heavy hooves pounding the earth hit my sensitive ears. Instantly, a beautiful black stallion emerged from the darkness, seeming to have come from the darkness itself. Obsidian walked to where I stood and softly nickered, letting me know that he was prepared for anything. I steadily held my foot in one stirrup and in one fluid moment, swung my other leg over Obsidians back and into the other stirrup.
Once seated comfortably in my aged saddle from when Vectra reigned, I stroked Obsidians coarse raven mane through my fingers. Turning to face the vampiress once again I smiled, excited by the idea of an adventure...and pleased with the fact that I would be joined on this particular occassion.
"Let us be off, there is little time to waste. After you."
(I'll meet you in the village)

She looked to the horizon as Lestats' horse Obsidian emerged from the darkness, his heavy hooves pounding the ground letting himself be known. Obsidian was a sight indeed and his name reflected his pure black color. The horse moved as if it walked on the air moving gracefully with each step, and he was rather tall.
The nicker the horse let out was quite different from any horses' nicker she ahd heard before; a spectacular horse. But she was surprised as Saggitarius stepped forward, she was usually rather skittish around other horses but she actually stepped toward him. She smiled to herself and watched as Lestat mounted his horse on to an aged saddle.
"Alright then, let's be off." She turned Saggitarius in the direction of the village and kicked her sides gently going at a steady walk and going increasingly faster, but making sure Lestat was still there, because SAggitarius could be quite a bullet while Obsidian was most likely very fast and beat most every horse at brute strength, nearly no one could beat Saggitarius in a race.
((Off to the village I will go.))
