We had ridden at a rapid pace to the small village, which was situated on a small hill toward the west side of Nullius. Obisidian's powerful legs stretched and strained to keep an even pace with Vittoria's mare, and although he was faster than most other horses...he remained one length behind Saggitarius the whole journey. I was impressed with the mare, she was the first equine to outrun my stallion, not to mention the fact that she was a fine creature indeed.
Upon entering the village, the horses slowed to a steady walk. Their hoofbeats coming in even, slow rhythms as their hooves collided with the cobble-stone roads. I watched with anticipation at the sleeping houses which surrounded us. It was only a matter of finding one of those houses that held the painting of a sunset we desired. My mind contemplated which house to explore first, as I spoke to Vittoria in a mere whisper.
"Vittoria, we must sneak into each of these houses to search for what we are here for. Now, it is just the decision to which house to enter first...I'll let you choose if you wish."

She patted her horse as they slowed to a stop in the small village. She knew her way around for she had been here plenty of times. It was like a second home really. The houses in this part of the village were merely shacks, a few big houses here and there though the person inside was either rich or they had a large family that had somehow scrapped up enough money.
"Alright..." she looked around at the street they were on, though a big house made of stone caught her attention. Those that lived there were bound to be rich. Perhaps they had one? "What about that big stone house over there." she said in no more than a whisper, and pointed in the direction of the house.
She wondered if the painting Lestat mentioned before would be inside the house....or would they be out all night? Hopefully not; else they might stay too long and get burned to nothing. She feared that most of all right now. Not that she was afraid of dieing. She'd readily give up her life later, but not now.

I gazed in the direction of the home that Vittoria had chosen. A rather large house made of stone, nicely decorated with trinkets of no value. I nodded in approval of the house of choice, it was wise to pick a home of a wealthy appearence as the chances were much higher in finding what we had come for. Silently, I leaped off Obisidian and led him to a nearby pole in which I tied his reins to, I knew that if I hadn't tied them he wouldn't wander off but I thought it better to be safe. I noticed the sadness in his large, brown eyes so I stroked his cheek softly before I turned to Vittoria and whispered.
"I believe that we are better to enter through the back way..."
I pointed to the small backyard, fenced with a low iron fence that stood up to my knees. One couldn't help but notice the jasmine which grew neatly over the small fence, filling the air with a sweet fragrance. I turned my gaze back to Vittoria and finished my sentence.
"...from there we will just have to search the house. Would you like me to enter first or would you like to do the honours?"

She hoped off her horse only a couple seconds after Lestat, tieing Saggitarius' to the same pole Obsidian was tied to. She stroked the palomino mare and loosened her saddle albeit before following Lestat. She heard Lestats whisper saying they should enter through the back, she shook her head in agreement and saw the small fenced backyard he was pointing to.
"Ladies first I suppose."
She caught the strong scent of jasmine as she stepped over the fence. She heard the familiar caw of Midnight and waved him away, while trying not to trample the jasmine flowers. She walked over to the back of the dark house, and opened the small wooden with a low creek. She waited to see if anyone woke up before caustiously entering the home. She waited for Lestat before exploring further.

In the poor lighting that the sleeping stone house offered, I could see that we were standing in a family living area. Comfortable appearing chairs were neatly arranged a small table holding goblets and random articles on it's surface. The room was abundant in expensive trinkets and ornaments, most lined along the mantelpiece over the small fireplace that overlooked the far end of the room. My superior eyes scanned over the walls, searching for the painting we desired, yet there were none. The only painting in the room was a portrait of what appeared to be an ancestor of the family that resided here.
Slightly disapppointed, I looked around for other rooms that possibly held what we hunted for, and I noticed a small, stone stairway to our right. Nudging Vittoria softly in her forearm, I pointed to the stairs and spoke in a whisper. My ears keeping keen alert for any movement.
"There is nothing in this room, but we should also try upstairs. Follow me..."
As silently as thieves in the night we began to walk the stiars...
